Introduction

The Ultra 2 (A14) was Sun's last SBUS-based workstation. It uses the same UltraSPARC II CPUs as the [Ultra 30]?, Ultra 60 or [Ultra 80]?, but can also use older UltraSPARC I CPUs. A maximum of two CPUs are supported. Like the Ultra 1 Enterprise (Ultra 1E), it has a UPA slot for a "horizontal" [Creator 3D]? or [SunElite3D m6]? framebuffer.

Tested Configurations

Aurora Version Configuration Remarks Reporter
1.92 Solair Ultra 2 Clone with CPU: 2 x 360MHz UltraSPARC II, Framebuffer: Creator 3D, RAM: 1GB, Other: SunVideo? card, additional SCSI/Ethernet (SBE/S?) card Works (except for SunVideo?). The 360MHz CPU is not officially supported in the U2, but works well. Emgaron
1.92 Ultra 2 Enterprise with CPU: 2 x 400MHz UltraSPARC II, Framebuffer: Creator 3D, RAM: 512MB, Other: System Works extremly well no issues at all. Dgilmore
2.0 Solair Ultra 2 Clone with CPU: 2 x 360MHz UltraSPARC II, Framebuffer: Creator 3D, RAM: 1GB, Other: SunVideo? card, additional SCSI/Ethernet (SBE/S?) card Works (except for SunVideo?). The additional SCSI card is making problems with some external tape drives, though - need to investigate Emgaron
